How this works

Where the results come from

Every number comes from an official source: the Broward County Supervisor of Elections results files, the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections results site, the Florida Division of Elections statewide results file (statewide, congressional, legislative and judicial races, with each county's numbers and the total), and, for Texas, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington, Louisiana and Utah, that state's election office's public results.

Our server checks Broward's results about once an hour before election night and every 15 seconds on election night, and this page updates itself just as often, so there's no need to refresh. Florida statewide and Miami-Dade results are checked about every 2 minutes on election night. Before election night, the list of races in those states is refreshed about once an hour. On election night, races in other states are checked about every 2 minutes, and only after someone chooses to watch them. Where a source supports it, the server only downloads a file when something has changed. Your browser gets results from scottauld.org and never contacts those sites directly.

Election-night results are unofficial. Always confirm with the official results link. Most states aren't tracked here yet. Search for any state (or a big city in it) to get a link to its official live results.

Your privacy

No account, no cookies, no ads, no outside scripts, and no third-party trackers. The races you watch are saved only in your own browser (local storage), and you can remove them anytime.

When you watch an out-of-state race, the server records only which race needs updating, not who you are, so it knows what to check. No personally identifiable information is retained. scottauld.org's own simple visit counter records only which page was viewed, when, and any site that linked to it, never your IP address. To stop abuse, the server keeps short-lived request counters tied to a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, deleted within about an hour, and like any website it keeps standard web server logs for up to two weeks. Nothing is shared with outside companies. Share links contain only race numbers.
